With a 9-1 season against one of the toughest schedules in the state, the hardware is starting to roll in for LCA. The Kentucky Football Coaches Association named Head Coach Doug Charles and senior running back Brady Hensley as 2A, District 4 Coach and Player of the Year, respectively.

Charles wins the honor after securing his fourth consecutive district championship. The Eagles are currently ranked #1 in 2A in several statewide media polls and third in the KHSAA's RPI rankings.

Brady Hensley, 2A, District 4 Player of the Year

Hensley takes top honors after rushing all over every team the Eagles have played this season. The EKU commit leads all of 2A in both rushing, 1,940 yards, and scoring, 242 points. Only Bell County's Daniel Thomas, playing a 3A schedule in Eastern Kentucky, has more yards or points.

What's even more remarkable about these awards - the schedule in which LCA went 9-1 against. The Eagles earned wins against four other District Coaches of the Year - Michael Salmons, Raceland; Chris McNamee, Pikeville; Nick Baisch, Lexington Catholic; and Mark Spader, Bowling Green.

Of course, with those great coaches came some great players. The Eagles earned victories over five District Players of the Year: Noah Wallace, Raceland; Brenden Anthony, Pikeville; Cole Hodge, CAL; Jackson Wasik, Lexington Catholic; and Deuce Bailey, Bowling Green.

The Eagles' lone loss - you guessed it, came against another pair of the state's best. Boyle County's Justin Haddix and Sage Dawson took home 4A, District 7 Coach and Player of the Year. And the Rebels sit atop nearly every ranking of the #1 team in all of Kentucky.

The Road to Kroger Field

As you might expect, the 2A playoff race is loaded with more honorees. Mayfield's Zane Cartwright, Owensboro Catholic's Brady Atwell, and Beechwood's Clay Hayden also took top player honors in their respective districts. Meanwhile, Joe Morris of Mayfield took Coach of the Year, along with Jason Morris at Owensboro Catholic, as did a familiar foe from the recent past, Clay Clevenger, now leading Somerset, who could emerge as a dark horse on their side of the bracket.

The Road to Kroger Field begins this Thursday when the Eagles host Clinton County in the first round of the 2A playoffs.
